|
|
I'm finally getting around to buying some dust filters for my PC fans and am wondering if plastic or aluminium filters are best, or if there is a difference at all.
Plastic seems a bit pricer, but not enough to bother me since im not bothered which i get, just wondering if one is better than the other.
tks guys... _________________ BMF

I tried filters once upon a time, but found that they did more harm than good.
I work in a cement plant where dust is a big problem. The filters would get clogged and the users wouldn't clean them often enough. After a while, I removed the filters and just started opening the computers up once every few months and blowing the dust off with the exhaust end of a shop vac. (Compressed air can push dust into hard drive vents and canned air isn't beefy enough). _________________

Oddly enough i did think about getting the compressor out and using that.....stupidity gave way to intelligent thinking though, and we dont have the canned air over here...
I do realize they require some weeekly effort to keep clean, which is no problem....its better than having to do the whole case every few weeks though.. _________________ BMF

neilo keep in mind motti's talking about a highly dusty environment. if you keep your tower off the floor and your home well vacuumed, filters aren't that much of a PITA. i'd go with metal since you can put them through the dish washer.
but i'd not use them myself either. not because they clog, but because they restrict airflow SIGNIFICANTLY. if you're gonna stay into overclocking, just get in the habit of blowing out your tower every month or so (canned gas works great on regular dust if you do it regularly). _________________ Don't worry. Thats what makes it harder here...we dont have canned air, it's illegal here.
The tower is off thew floor and we keep a very tidy house to my sons Asthma...but im dissapointed the reduce air flow so much. I expected some loss of air flow of course, but nothing so much as to really affect performance......
I've drooped my overclock to a modest 3.0ghz...(default is 2.4) and i barley notice a temp increase, so maybe if i keep to the lower speeds i might get away with????
obviously running at anything like 3.6 would be out of the question... _________________ BMF
